Module 4 discusses the concept of active learning and its importance
in adult learning and explains important characteristics of the excellent
learning activity. Ideas for individual activities, group activities,
and experiential activities are provided. Additionally, the learning portfolio
is presented as a way to document learning gained from activities. The

Section 1: Active Learning Theory

utilize it to effectively facilitate learning in the adult education classroom.

learning activities for the adult learner.
Section 3: Learning Through In-Class
Group Activities
Section 3 focuses on identifying, developing, facilitating, and assessing
group learning activities for the adult learner. Strategies for cooperative
and collaborative learning in the adult classroom are discussed.
Section 4: Learning Through Experience
Section 4 discusses the various types of experience learning available
to the adult learner in the career college. These experiential activities
include externships, field work, field trips, guest speakers, tours, and
employment shadowing.
Section 5: The Learning Portfolio
Section 5 discusses a variety of ways to document learning through learning
portfolios.
